Do you remember the man from the motorcycle chase scene in Mission Impossible 2? Or Mr. Ethan Hunt chasing Walker down in London? Yes, we’re talking about none other than Tom Cruise. Well, we can forget about that. How about we see Tom driving an ultra-fast F1 car? Yes, that’s right. Tom Cruise indeed drove a Red Bull car a decade ago and we can’t have enough.
Cruise is one of the biggest Hollywood stars out there and it’s needless to talk about his popularity all over the world. Tom has lately been a familiar face in F1 as the superstar was spotted during the 2021 British Grand Prix at Mercedes AMG F1 paddock and fist-bumped Lewis Hamilton before the race. However, did you know that he has even driven an F1 car?
Yes, you read it right. Tom Cruise indeed drove an F1 car. In a video posted by Red Bull’s Official YouTube channel, the Top Gun star was seen completing a lap in the Red Bull F1 car in 2011. The Austrian team invited the Mission Impossible star to take a break from shooting his Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and come check out the fast machine.
How did the Red Bull drive go for the Superstar?
Red Bull’s former star driver David Coulthard took the opportunity to be Tom’s instructor. The 13-time Grand Prix winner helped and instructed Cruise to drive around the Southern California’s 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) Willow Spring Circuit. Tom reached the top speed of 181 mph (291 kmph).
Interestingly, that was super impressive given his instructor, David was just 4 mph ahead of him in terms of top speed. The praise for the superstar doesn’t end here as Tom improved his lap time by 11 seconds by the time he finished with his drive. That’s a quite remarkable feat.
Though the Hollywood A-lister didn’t end there. To our astonishment, Mr. Cruise found his way to the Red Bull aerobatic helicopter and did some loops in the sky.

Although Cruise has had a pilot’s license since 1994, the Top Gun star also has a license to fly helicopters, which has allowed him to demonstrate his abilities in complex aerial sequences in Mission Impossible as well as Top Gun: Maverick. But all of this shouldn’t come as a shock, as we all know that Tom is pretty famous for carrying out his stunts on his own.
