World heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has got himself a guard dog.

The 6ft 9in slugger – who is worth a reported £120million – has bought a £20,000 Rottweiler appropriately called `Cash’. Fans have questioned why he needs a protection dog when he is undefeated in 33 professional fights, but the 33-year-old Gypsy King wants the pooch to safeguard his home from thieves.

“Hear TF has got a guard dog…wonder if he will end up guarding it?” tweeted one bewildered fan, while another joked: “He should’ve gone for a boxer.”

Tyson, who hung up his gloves after defeating Dillian Whyte in April, has recently added a £380,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II to a car collection worth £1.3million – including two Ferraris.

He hopes his new dog will protect wife Paris, 31, their six kids and his fleet of motors at the family home in Morecambe.

The boxer posted a photo the pooch on Instagram captioned: “Welcome to the team,” and added video of him taking Cash for a run along the seafront with his dad John and brother Tommy in tow.

Tyson got the hound from London-based Elite Protection Dogs – the specialist firm that recently supplied ex-footballer Ashley Cole with a German Shepherd. The company’s website says: “All our puppies come from military and police backgrounds with generations of experience.

“Protection dogs are fully integrated into family life, as pets, and as working dogs, which can react on the command from the owner or expression of aggression from an attacker towards a family member.”

Tyson acted after a series of recent raids on the homes of sports stars including Everton first team coach Cole, Chelsea and England footballer Reece James and cycling legend Mark Cavendish. Manchester City star Jack Grealish also recently spent £40,000 on two guard dogs.

Other stars with protection pooches include Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford and Rio Ferdinand.
